Brief Explanation of a Racially Hostile Work Environment Case

Our client worked as a security guard in the Bay Area. He was African American and a co-worker made racists jokes around him. The co-worker increased the harassment by leaving a noose on our client’s car. Our client reported the incident to management and they did nothing to help him. The company did not discipline the co-worker or take any steps to prevent further harassment. The racial harassment only increased as the co-worker retaliated against our client for reporting him. The companies failure to protect our client violated his rights under California law and triggered legal liability. The company was made aware of the racial harassment and at that point it was legally obligated to protect our client. This is an example of illegal workplace harassment based on our client’s race.
