Sanchez et al v. Hearst Communications Inc. – Case No. 4:20-cv-05147

On July 27, 2020, our firm filed a putative class action case against Hearst Communications, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco. The case was filed on behalf of all Dealers who worked for Hearst in California.

The Complaint alleges that Hearst misclassified the Dealers as independent contractors. In a prior case filed against Hearst by a Dealer (Martel v. Hearst Communications, Inc.), the court found that Dealers are employees and not independent contractors. The damages in that case for one Dealer were estimated to exceed $650,000 in unpaid wages, missed meal and rest breaks, unreimbursed expenses and penalties.

The case was filed as a putative class action and the Plaintiffs seek unpaid overtime compensation, missed meal and rest break premiums, unreimbursed business expenses and all other damages available.
