Pregnancy Discrimination

Looking for help with San Francisco Pregnancy Discrimination? Our lawyers have been helping employees in San Francisco and California since 2009.

Read on to find out how we can help you.

Paid Parental Leave Program

San Francisco has some of the most progressive laws designed to protect working parents. In 2016, San Francisco enacted the nation’s first fully paid parental leave program. Under this law, people who work in San Francisco are entitled to six weeks of fully paid leave to bond with their newborn child. See here for more details about the program.

Family Medical Leave After Birth of a Child

San Francisco employees are also entitled to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the Family Medical Leave Act and the California Family Rights Act. These laws give you the right to take 12 weeks of leave and return to the same, or similar, position. See our FMLA explainer video. These laws provide strong protection against retaliation as well. See our video on FMLA retaliation.

San Francisco Pregnancy Discrimination

Pregnancy discrimination in San Francisco is prohibited. Employees are protected by state and federal laws such as the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), The California Family Rights Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Pregnancy Disability Leave Law. Our lawyers can help you if you have been discriminated against due to your pregnancy. All too often employees are fired either while pregnant or while out on maternity leave.

Pregnancy Disability Leave

San Francisco employees are also covered by the California Pregnancy Disability Leave Law (PDL). This law gives pregnant employees the right to reasonable accommodations and time off for pregnancy related medical issues.

How can Your Law Firm Help Me with San Francisco Pregnancy Discrimination?

The first step is a free consultation to determine if you have a case. Our firm can help you enforce your rights if you have been fired, demoted, denied leave or otherwise mistreated due your pregnancy. In most cases, we are able to obtain favorable settlements out of court. However, when necessary we also file cases in court.

What Information do You Need from Me When I Call / Contact You?

When you contact us, please be ready to share any information you have about your situation at work. For example, if you were fired while pregnant or while on leave, we would need to know all of the details about the termination. During our call or meeting, we will gather the details about the incident. If you have any notes, emails, or other records please have them ready for our meeting.
